Time to think…about your inner beat

“When forced, as it seems, by circumstances into utter confusion, get a hold of yourself quickly. Don’t be locked out of the rhythm any longer than necessary. You’ll be able to keep the beat if you are constantly returning to it.” Marcus Aurelius, Meditations.

Know the sound of your own drum and beat it yourself – sometimes softly and quietly, sometimes powerfully and loudly – but beat it nonetheless.

Sometimes events leave us feeling bewildered and confused. If there are strong emotions there too, it indicates that something has gone against your values. What is important to you and why? What were you expecting to happen and what has actually happened? The more aware you are of your values – of the beat of your own drum – the quicker you’ll be able to make sense of these moments and keep a rational outlook.
