“For to be wise is only one thing – to fix our attention on our intelligence, which guides all things everywhere.”
Heraclitus.

It’s usually the case, when we do something that we later regret, that we are quick to beat ourselves up, labelling ourselves as ‘stupid’, ‘an idiot’ or condemning ourselves to eternal gloom by adding the word ‘always’ – “you always do this” and “you’ll always be rubbish”.

Stop it right now! It’s not big and it’s not clever and no-one likes someone who indulges in excessive self-pity. You know this is not what you want. Take a step back and think about what you do want, about what happened this time, and, more importantly, about what you will do the next time this situation arises. Give yourself a break from the negative emotions and allow your truly intelligent brain to get a word in edgeways!
