“Think of those who, not by fault of inconsistency but by lack of effort, are too unstable to live as they wish, but only live as they have begun.”
Seneca, On Tranquility of Mind

Firstly, you can objectively review what you were expecting to happen, consider your values, and then weigh up your options for change. To what extent do your choices lead you to this upset? Perhaps when you set out on this path, all was well, but then things changed.
If you can see or imagine the track that you want to follow, the choice to switch tracks remains yours. And the effort required is yours too. Or you could keep following the same track and hope that something or someone will change it for you.
