Thank you for subscribing to Success in Mind, the weekly newsletter from Face Value Performance Psychology, that explores the way that we think, feel and behave.
The newsletter comes in three parts: blot, bang and rub. To most readers, these three little words will have little or no significance, but for me they carry a lot of emotional meaning from my previous career. They are the immediate action drills for saving yourself after a chemical warfare agent has landed on you (unpleasant, I know!).
I'm using the same words here in a newsletter about keeping yourself, and others, psychologically safe. The newsletter content is arranged according to how quickly you can benefit from using the techniques and methods explained in each section - from immediate action through to more deliberate and reflective practice.
Blot is a short and sharp, easy-to-read section, intended to provide you with a tip or technique for immediate action.
Bang invites you to delve a little deeper into the technique and get more out of it than simply following the directive approach provided in the 'blot' section.
Rub encourages you to invest a little more of your time into applying the techniques thoroughly to your specific situation - to rub the 'solution' in so it meets your needs. This requires some reflective practice.
The newsletter is designed with you in mind. I want it to be something that anyone can find of use in some way – from the quickest and simplest application of a technique right now, to something that informs, educates and, perhaps, even entertains!

Blot – a section of content for immediate absorption – something you can apply right away to improve your situation.
Bang – delving in a little deeper to the theory and research behind the theory or technique introduced in the Blot section.
Rub – an invitation for you to apply the techniques to your own personal situation and to reflect on the results you get. This section will generally be a little longer than the preceding ones, as it invites you to consider the specifics of your own situation and the context you find yourself working in: what do you need to do? What would work for you? What will you commit to doing differently?
